How do you play Alterac Valley?

Main Objective

In Alterac Valley, each team starts with 600 reinforcements. The objective is to reduce the opposing team's reinforcements to 0 or kill its main general.

Killing the enemy general results in an immediate victory.

How are reinforcements reduced?

• Killing the enemy captain reduces that team's reinforcements by 100 and awards additional Honor and Reputation.
• Destroying an enemy tower or bunker reduces reinforcements by 75 and awards additional Honor.
• Each enemy player killed reduces that team's reinforcements by 1.
• Graveyards can be captured to move your resurrection point closer to the front. Each faction also has one starting graveyard that cannot be captured.
• Mines can be captured by defeating their leaders. A controlled mine restores 1 reinforcement every 45 seconds.

Alliance Strategy

The main objectives in the original EVOWOW strategy are:

1. Capture graveyards in this order: Snowfall → Iceblood → Frostwolf → Relief Hut.
2. Destroy towers in this order: Iceblood Tower → Tower Point → East Frostwolf Tower → West Frostwolf Tower.
3. Kill Galvangar in Iceblood Garrison.
4. Finally, kill Drek'Thar in Frostwolf Keep.

A small group of around five players can move quickly between strategic objectives and help capture and defend them. The original strategy suggests a stealth-oriented group that can avoid unnecessary fights and reach towers more quickly.

• Part of the team can capture and defend Snowfall.
• The main force kills Galvangar and then moves toward Iceblood and the next strategic objectives.
• Leave a small number of defenders at captured graveyards and towers while the rest of the team continues forward.
• Once the important objectives are secured, regroup for the attack on Drek'Thar.

Horde Strategy

The main objectives in the original EVOWOW strategy are:

1. Capture graveyards in this order: Stonehearth → Stormpike → Aid Station.
2. Destroy bunkers in this order: Icewing → North Dun Baldar → South Dun Baldar.
3. Kill Balinda in Stonehearth.
4. Finally, kill Vanndar Stormpike in Dun Baldar Fortress.

As with the Alliance strategy, a small fast group can split off for strategic objectives while the main force moves toward the captain, graveyards, and bunkers.

• After killing Balinda, move toward Icewing Bunker and leave a few players to defend it.
• A fast group can continue toward Dun Baldar Fortress and help capture Aid Station and the bunkers.
• Capture Stormpike Graveyard and leave defenders there to preserve a useful resurrection point.
• Once the important objectives are secured, regroup for the attack on Vanndar Stormpike.

Individual kills matter in Alterac Valley, but captains, towers, bunkers, graveyards, and the final general have a much greater effect on the outcome of the match.
